Recommendation

Reserve the 6-hour trip to Atlanta for when NC truly can't deliver the gear.

Start local — NC first

Call Summit Camera first for RED availability.
Use The 541 Co. or GlassFire for lighting, grip and support — both close to Fuquay via I-40.
If RED is unavailable locally, use Lensrentals.com for mail delivery — no drive.
For audio, On Location NC or Southeastern Camera can supplement.

Go to Atlanta if…

You need a soundstage (PC&E is the only comparable option in the Southeast).
You require Panavision glass or ARRI Rental bodies not available locally.
You're packaging a multi-day shoot and can amortize travel across production days.
You need expendables in bulk — PC&E stocks them with rentals.

Steps to find a team for a 48hr project

Join the Triangle Filmmaking Community Facebook group and post your skills at least 2–3 weeks before the event.
Attend the Carolina Filmmakers Happy Hour (1st Wednesday each month, Motorco/Parts & Labor, Durham) — teams actively recruit there.
Check the 48 Hour Film Project city page — most cities maintain a crew/cast spreadsheet for people seeking teams.
Register as a solo filmmaker on 48hourfilm.com — organizers often match solo entrants with teams that need crew.
Post on the NCFI community channels — active and beginner-friendly.
Search "48 hour film project" on Eventbrite and Facebook Events for Triangle-area team-forming meetups before each competition.
